DOBSON – There’s little doubt there are jobs waiting for nursing students.

“Demand is huge,” Lory Puckett, a nursing instructor at Surry Community College, declares in the accompanying video.

“The demand in nursing has always been there, and it’s going to continue to be there, because we have an aging population,” Puckett says.  “…So with that aging population, we have a lot of nursing that’s going toward geriatrics as well.  Pediatrics will always be there, oncology….

“What we’re doing right now is that we’re increasing quality of life, but we’re increasing the quantity of life.  So with that increase in the quantity of life, we’re increasing the demand for nursing.”

For nursing students, Puckett says, that virtually guarantees a job is available – a job that’s not likely to be exported.

“Before they graduate, they’re already employed.  And that holds true for every single student who wants a job prior to graduation,” she says.
